What was it like taking your family members flying? Were you nervous?
“When I was first trying to find the time to take my family up, I remember being quite conscientious about what it was like in the air more than I would be if I was going solo seeing as it was their first time flying with me. When I first took my brother for a flight, I was excited but was also nervous as she was the first person that I took up. It was a little bit easier with my dad seeing as he was not my first passenger. However it was my mom’s first time in a glider so she didn't know what to expect. This resulted in her not feeling quite as comfortable in the glider as the others. I tried to make the flight as smooth as possible for her.”
Not too long ago you were new to the scene and lo and behold, now you’re one of our senior Line Crew members. What’s it like training the new Line Crew members like Sebastian?
“It is very rewarding teaching new line crew members, seeing how they grow into their roles as line crew and fit into the team. To act as a role model for others was something that I never expected to do but it is a task enjoyable and worth doing.”
You and Danny won the flying brick award this season. Do you think that was fair, given how it was a checkride prep flight on a really windy and sinky day?
“I feel that this is perfectly fair seeing as everyone works on maneuvers at some point it just so happened that for me this day lined up with a very sinky day. It was also the case that Braden and Tom were flying that day as well and their time was only a little longer than ours, which is still a really short flight.”
You’ve had a lot of flights at this point. Do any stand out as being most memorable?
“Yes, one of my flights was about 3 flights before my solo and my flight about 3 flights before my checkride. Both of these flights stand out to me because they had the most impact on my progression as a pilot and a person.”
What is your dream aviation job?
“My dream aviation job would be an aerospace engineer. I find it endlessly interesting to investigate the design characteristics that go into aircraft design. One of the many joys at the airport is to be able to gain hands-on experience working with all the aircraft on the field and learning about their different designs”
