Youth Soaring Camps

Each summer, Sugarbush Soaring welcomes youth ages 13 to 18 to the beautiful Warren–Sugarbush Airport (0B7) in Warren, Vermont, for an unforgettable week of soaring adventures, discovery, and personal growth. For over a decade, these overnight, week-long Youth Soaring Camps have opened the door to a world where curiosity and confidence take flight.

Instructional flights are conducted by SSA’s highly experienced, FAA-certified flight instructors in two-place gliders (two PW-6’s and two SGS 2-33’s). Advanced, qualified students may also fly in the single seat SGS 1-26. On rainy days, campers fly the simulator or work on STEM projects, such as building and flying drones.

Whether it’s a first flight or a chance to sharpen existing skills, campers learn, grow, and build confidence in the week they are at camp.

Access matters!
In the last four years, FEFY has awarded more than $70,000 in full and partial scholarships, making the camp experience possible for qualified applicants who otherwise might not be able to attend.

While the focus is on making the student the best pilot he or she can be, other fun activities round out the experience. These include swimming and kayaking, informal sports (favorites include Frisbee, soccer and manhunt), a bonfire with s’mores and stargazing, and trips to offsite facilities such as the Burlington International Airport (BVT) Tower and Approach Control Facility and BETA Technologies when available.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, campers don’t just learn how to fly — they learn how to trust themselves, work as a team, and see the world from a whole new perspective. Each participant receives up to ten instructional flights (weather permitting) and daily ground school sessions that bring the science of flight to life. Campers explore topics such as aerodynamics, airspace, glider systems, weather, soaring techniques, and aviation careers—all while developing the confidence, responsibility, and communication skills necessary to succeed.
